What should I do if I have an invalid GTIN on Google Merchant Center?

An invalid GTIN can cause issues with product visibility or even disapprovals on Google Merchant Center. Before we send data to the Google Merchant Center, we thoroughly verify the GTIN-related data. If an error is detected, we notify you so you can rectify the issue.

If you do not have a GTIN code, we can send a ‘____’ (blank) value ahead or provide other options (in the case of custom products) to ensure they do not negatively affect your Shopify store.

What if I have duplicate GTINs on Google Merchant Center?

Duplicate GTINs can be easily fixed. Simply check the affected products and verify if you have duplicate GTINs. Make corrections and provide the unique GTINs for each product in Shopify. Once edited, resubmit the updated product data through the ‘Update Feed’ button, and your updated and refined feed will be synced to Google Merchant Center.

Can I leave the GTIN field empty for custom products on Shopify?

For customized products that don't have a standard identifier like GTIN or MPN, AdNabu allows you to set the "Identifier Exists" field to "No" in the Google Shopping Feed App. This ensures that Google understands the product lacks a standard identifier, which is important for made-to-order or unique items.

You can update this setting individually on the product edit page or use the Bulk Edit feature to apply it to multiple products. This process helps ensure your custom products are accurately listed on Google Merchant Center and avoids any potential disapprovals.

Is it compulsory to have a GTIN for all products?

A GTIN code will verify the authenticity and ownership of a product. While a GTIN is not compulsory for all products, it is quite essential.

If you do not have the GTINs for a product, simply leave the "Barcode" field in your Shopify admin blank. Our app will sync it as blank on your Google Merchant Center account, too. Do ensure that you have added the SKU values for such products.

The SKU would get mapped to the MPN field in the Google Merchant Center, and the "Brand" value can be provided on the app by bulk editing your products.

How do I verify the accuracy of a GTIN?

You can verify the accuracy and validity of the GTIN code you received from GS1 US by cross-referencing the data on the official website of GS1 US.

Can I add GTIN values through the AdNabu app?

No, our app can sync the preexisting information to Google Merchant Center and other top marketplaces. The GTIN code for every product needs to be added directly to the Shopify Admin.
